Overview of Shalem at TABC

The Rabbi Mark & Linda Karasick Shalem High School at Torah Academy of Bergen County is located in Teaneck, NJ.  Shalem at TABC is SINAI Schools’ high school for boys diagnosed with Developmental and/or profound Learning Disabilities.  Shalem balances course material with a focus on skill development.  We teach our students to become independent and confident learners.

What does the curriculum include?

The secular curriculum is comprised of Reading, Writing, Math, World Awareness, Socialization, Language, Safety, Computers, and Physical Education classes.

In Judaic studies, courses include T'filla, Hebrew language, Halacha, Chumash, Mishna, Ritual Observance, and Parsha.

Additional emphasis is placed on Life skills, Community Awareness, and Vocational Studies.

In all subjects, teachers employ a hands-on, skills-based approach to promote meaningful learning.

How are the classes formed?

Classes range in size from three to eight students.  Students are assigned to classes based on similarities in needs and learning styles, teacher recommendations, standardized testing, informal assessment, chronological age and maturity, and skill level. Each student receives an individualized educational program tailored to his needs.

What extra-curricular activities are offered?

All students participate in the non-academic activities offered in the typical Torah Academy of Bergen County experience, including lunch, prayers, trips, after-school clubs, Shabbatons, and special programs.
