Message From The Dean
Thank you for visiting us online and taking the time to learn more about SINAI Schools. As the Dean, I have the unique privilege of collaborating with and being inspired by a talented professional team and dedicated parent body who share our vision and philosophy of special education. Since its inception in 1982, SINAI has grown into a thought leader in Jewish Special Education, providing services to children and young adults in both an individualized and inclusive manner, while continuing to be recognized for its academic excellence. I am sincerely grateful to our supporters who recognize SINAI’s vital role in the community, and who make it possible for us to continue to impact so many children and their families each year.
I am often asked, “How is it possible to reach so many different types of children in one school, all in an inclusive setting?” The answer, while intricate and detailed in practice, is very simple at its core: everything that we offer to our students is personalized and individualized for each one of them.
Where else can a 7-year-old boy with severe learning disabilities receive specialized and intensive reading instruction and benefit from organizational training and support, while at the same time enjoy a game of soccer with his typically developing peers? In what other school can a bright sixth-grade girl diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome take advantage of small-group, remedial expressive writing instruction, an accelerated inclusive math program, and benefit from intensive and fully integrated social skills training? Where else can a 15-year-old boy with an anxiety disorder, after floundering in a mainstream yeshiva, continue to learn at grade level while thoughtfully reintegrating into the academic and social general education environment through a supported curricular design? The blend of unique opportunities that our students experience is a function of our distinctive individualized approach to curriculum building and inclusion.
So, while I am pleased to welcome you to our “virtual home” online, I do hope that you’ll visit us as well, and witness the uniqueness of our schools in person. Additionally, please feel free to reach out to me directly to inquire about any aspect of SINAI Schools.
